11th October 2009
Windsurfing: Gruissan-France
Wind Direction: nw
Wind Stength: 20/30
Surf / Sea State: flat
Air Temperature: 25+
Sea Temperature: warm
Weather: sunny
Max Speed: 30.77 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 120 !!!!!! (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

Arrived in Gruissan late Friday night and parked at marina aire, then in the morning a ride around to find a windsurfing beach via Gruissan market where we spent a fortune on cheese for dinner !!! We then get to the breakwater at the right end of Gruissan Plage look to the right and I thought I had died and gone to heaven :) mile after mile of deserted beach and flat water with the offshore wind which had already kicked in and there were a couple already out.The next problem was find our way through the salt marshes and Etanges to park on the beach !!! we made it eventually made it although it was a tight squeeze through a rock chicane designed to keep big campers off the beach and parked just 50m from the sea !!! After a quick breakfast and a word with some local windsurfers about it was safe to park on the beach and sail size I went with 6.4.I then had the first 2 and a 1/2 hours in what is a windersurfers paradise :) You could flat out blast the six miles to Port-la-Nouvelle running parallel to the shore with the fantastic mountain backdrop!!!!! The only disappointing thing where my times and it took me a long time to breat 30 kts which was a real surprise in winds of 25 kt + but I think the problem here is the wind direction being offshore you can't sail broad enough because you end up in the choppy water :( You had to work at keeping in close but even out abit you could sail close to 30 with no prolem and I did improve my mile abit :) I then came in to change to the 5.8 to see if that made any difference but broke my 430 mast downhauling (if anyone has a sdm 430 forsale please let me know) I had to rig the 6.4 again and my last words to Mag were I wont be long as I am knackered but 2 and a 1/2 hours later I staggered up the beach shot to pieces but smiling from ear to ear !!!! This must go down as my best days windsurfing ever ,I have never sailed so far in one day, been out with as many windsurfers and everyone should give it ago :) Even catching the wheel arch on the rock chicane did'nt spoil the day !!!! We will be back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
